Time to Get Wet!

5.24.18 Time to strap on the fins and Snorkel!

Floreana Island

Our first time snorkeling. I had to replace my mask & snorkel because I kept getting water up my nose and in my mouth, but thankfully I was fine without a wet suit.

Our wet landing was on Cormorant Point - more of the lovable blue footed boobies (so-named by the Spaniards as "bobos" - meaning stupid - because they never flew away whenever humans came near); greater flamingos; hermit crabs; sting rays; sea turtles; lava herons and lava lizards.

Hermit crab fully open after Juan breathed on it.

Mac trying to stir up some rays -
not realizing he was slowly being surrounded.

This was a very cool piece of driftwood that resembled a llama head.

When we returned to our ship for lunch, Juan tres (so named because he was the third Juan aboard the ship) was our cabin steward.  I think he was in my room every 15 minutes straightening one thing or another.

He would always leave the toilet seat up whenever he cleaned the bathroom, then I would proceed to put it down. He would put the duvet on the foot of the bed, and I would fold it up and put it on the shelf. But every afternoon he would leave each person very artistic towel art, and today, since we were seeing flamingos, our towels were flamingos.

Every lunch and dinner began with an absolutely delicious soup. Today our chef made a traditional Ecuadoran soup made with fish stock, white fish, multiple vegetables and herbs. Ingredients were quite artistically presented with a hilarious fruit presentation of cantaloupe, pineapple and cherries.

After lunch we headed by dinghy to Post Office Bay, where we hiked to the "post office" - quirky post office in a barrel where sailors have been leaving letters without postage for delivery since 1793. The idea is to reach inside the barrel and distribute the postcards inside. People read the various addresses, and if you live near that address, you are asked to deliver that postcard in person to that person.

After much discussion and many laughs, we head to the beach to snorkel or relax for the next hour before boarding the ship.

Steve and Wendy are ready to roll.

Mac and Beth prepare to go under.

 Our ship awaits our return.

Beautiful sunset shots from the bridge.
