Starting the Wet Part of our Trip
5/21/2018 Papallacta Hot Springs
After breakfast, ten of us decided to take advantage of the full-day optional tour to the Andean village of Papallacta and the Termas de Papallacta, a thermal hot spring and spa set high in the Andes, for a relaxing day with incredible vistas.
Some of us started out our adventure by soaking in all 5 of the outside hot springs in pools that ranged from ice cold to somewhat warm to scalding hot.
Around 11-11:30 many of us took advantage of the massages and other therapies being offered. I wanted to try something totally different so I chose the wine therapy wrap (of course!)
After donning my stylish paper bikini - which we swore didn't matter whether you had it on backward or forward or inside out - I endured a grape scrub, followed by a silky grape mousse application. After rinsing that off my skin, I was then covered with a warm red wine mask which turned very purple as it hardened.
Then Anita, my therapist, who was a great sport about photographing my adventure for me, wrapped me in Saran wrap as if I was a leftover casserole; covered me in a solar blanket; and left me to percolate for 20 minutes. After that it was time to shower once again to remove all evidence of purple. I smelled like a grapevine for a few hours after that and my skin was silky smooth.
A delicious grilled trout lunch followed our wonderful day of relaxation before one more stop at a phenomenal rose greenhouse on our way back to the hotel.
